Social networking sites have grown in popularity in recent years. Sites such as MySpace and Facebook allow long-lost friends and business associates to keep in touch and communicate. During these tough economic times, social networking sites are also a great tool to use for job hunting.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Search for social networking sites online (such as MySpace, Facebook and LinkedIn). Register for these sites and update your profile information. Add your resume and contact information on business sites like LinkedIn.

  2. Step 2

Add mutual friends and business contacts and associates to your social networking "friends" list. Post blog entries or updates that you are job hunting on your social networking profile.

  3. Step 3

Find the job listings section on social networking sites and apply for jobs that are right for you. Post on job hunting or career forums on social networking sites that you are looking for a job (and detail your criteria).

  4. Step 4

Respond cordially and professionally to job hunters who contact you via social networking sites. Be wary of scams and spam sent to your social networking email in-box.

  5. Step 5

Check your social networking sites daily and include a recent photo (if applicable). Network with friends of friends and business contacts. Utilize all resources and contacts you can find via social networking sites.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not spam or harass friends or contacts on social networking sites. Act like a professional and don't use profanity or slang in your correspondence to professional contacts. Be courteous and polite.
  • Do not add people you don't know (unless they are a potential job lead). Be careful of spammers and scams on social networking sites. Do not send money or personal contact information to people you don't know.
