How to Write a Bio

If you must write a bio, you first need to understand what one is. Writing a bio is not the same as writing a biography, or a profile. To write a bio is to create a unique type of information in which a lot has to be said in few words.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Think about what the readers of the bio want to know. If you are writing your bio as a blogger or a writer, you need to both entertain and inform with your bio. This means telling people why you are qualified to write about what you do and how long you've been writing as well as telling people a few interesting, personal details about yourself.

  2. Step 2

Mention your educational background if you have a relevant degree or went to a prestigious school.

  3. Step 3

Describe your current circumstances. Aside from what you have done in the past, you also need to have a least a sentence or two about what you are doing now. For a formal bio this may include what city you live in or what your current job function is. For a less formal bio, you can mention how many children you have, how many pets you own, etc.

  4. Step 4

Throw in a fun detail or two to make your personality come through. Many people use the last line of their bios to make a humorous statement about themselves. This may be a favorite food, a habit you're trying to break, a guilty TV-show pleasure or anything else that will help your bio readers to feel that they know you better.
