Friendship bracelet

A friendship bracelet offers a meaningful way to remember a strong bond between two people. The friendship bracelet discussed in this article is simple to make because it uses a simple braid. After making this token of appreciation, you can even conduct a special ceremony to seal the friendship and make the bracelet even more meaningful.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Embroidery floss or plastic cording in different colors
  • Small beads
  1. Step 1

Cut three lengths of string or cord to 1-inch long each.

  2. Step 2

Line them up so that the ends are side by side. Braiding a friendship bracelet will need three hands, so you will need to make an extra one out of an inanimate object. Bundle the threads together and tie one end to a chair back or a doorknob.

  3. Step 3

Separate the cords. Put one in your left hand, one in your right hand and leave the one in the center dangling.

  4. Step 4

Take the left cord and pass it over the center cord. Put the center cord in your left hand and leave the left cord in the center. These cords have switched places, basically, and you have started the braid.

  5. Step 5

Take the right cord an pass it over the center cord. Put the center cord (which used to be the left cord) in your right hand. Now the right cord is the center cord and the center cord is the right cord. Make sure that the braids are tight by pulling them close together and pulling the end of the string.

  6. Step 6

Repeat Step 4 and 5 five times.

  7. Step 7

Slip a bead on the center cord and repeat Step 6. Keep doing this until you run out of string or cord.

  8. Step 8

Take the bottom of the braid and knot it so that the cords or thread don't come loose.

  9. Step 9

Tie one end of the braid around your wrist and tie the other end around your friends wrist, then cut the braid between you. Now there are two halves of the same braid around each of your wrists. You can trim the excess braid that hangs from the knot for a cleaner look, or add beads to the fringe.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure to agree with your friend on the colors that are used for the bracelet.
  • Keep the ends of the cords or thread untangled while you braid.
