Major Skills

One of the first steps when learning the guitar.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • a guitar
  • a pick/fingers
  1. Step 1

A major scale can be played anywhere on the guitar. Location determines what key you’re in. For our purposes we’ll be in the key of G, located at the third fret. Assign each finger to a fret. You’re first finger the second fret, your second finger the third fret, your third the fourth, and your fourth the fifth.

  2. Step 2

Start with your second finger on the E string, which as you remember is assigned to the third fret. Then your fourth finger (pinky) fifth fret, E string. Then go down to the A string and hit that first finger, second finger, fourth finger. Then down to the D string and hit your first finger, third finger, and then fourth finger.

  3. Step 3

Jump down to the G string and repeat that last pattern. Move down to the G string and hit your second finger, then your fourth finger. Last but not least go down to the high E string and hit your first finger then your second finger. And voila, you have a G major scale.
