How to Meditate for Ten Minutes or Less

Many of us find ourselves rushed most of the time. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to take periodic, short breaks from our busy activities to relax?

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1
    Water
     
    Water

    Find a location. Look for a quiet place. Trees and vegetation are preferred and running water or ocean is also desirable. Choose a place without wind.

  2. Step 2
    Water
     
    Water

    Sit down. Sitting should be comfortable. Your body should be relaxed. There should be no movement.

  3. Step 3
    Water
     
    Water

    Close your eyes or unfocus. Limit visual distractions. Unfocusing is to stare at an object and focus beyond it.

  4. Step 4

    Water

    Feel your body. Slow your breathing, sense your muscles, limbs, and legs. Sense yourself as calm and relaxed. Continue to breathe slowly.

  5. Step 5
    Water
     
    Water

    Visualize. Imagine a beautiful location. While there allow yourself to wander about. Describe to yourself what you are doing.

  6. Step 6
    Water
     
    Water

    After performing two or three actions in your imaginary place, open or unfocus your eyes. Describe your experience to yourself.

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice this activity a few minutes each day. Keep a journal describing your visualizations.
