Plastic seed containerIndoor gardens can be planted any time of year and only need a warm, sunlit place in your house to get going. Start with a box to place the soil in or use different plastic seedling containers lined up on a pan.

Soil free of debrisGet the soil in the pots or box. Make sure the soil is free of debris.

Rosemary herb plantLet your child help you pick out which plants to grow. Herbs are especially good for indoor gardens.

Mark plantsTeach your child how to sow the seeds and water the pots. Label where each type of plant was sown so you know when they come up.

Plenty of sunlightKeep the seedlings in a warm, sunlit place to grow. Have your child check the progress daily and water when the soil feels almost dry.

Transplant when necessaryPlants in seedling pots can be transplanted to bigger pots as they grow. This will help the plants get big and full.
