Step 1
Donate your old computers to the Houston Charity Center.org. It’s a non-profit organization that helps families in need. Household essentials are made available free of charge to needy families. The general public may visit the thrift store located at 42909 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas 77504. You may send an email to make a donation.
-
Step 2
List the old computers on craigslist under the Houston, Texas section. If the computers work, a person in need may pick them up from you. If they don’t work, state that in the ad. A computer technician may be able to use them for parts or fix them and then resell them.
-
Step 3
Drop off your computer or computers at Westpark Recycling Center located at 5900 Westpark, Houston, Texas 77057. The city of Houston offers free recycling services to its residents. You may also drop off other items such as monitors and batteries.
-
Step 4
Contact Bass Computers, Inc. if you have Bass system and need to dispose of it. This Houston-based company will recycle all electronic components safely and responsibly. Although computers contain precious resources, you must take the proper precautions to avoid contamination.
-
Step 5
Give the old computers to friends or neighbors who may use them. Look for wanted ads in newspapers. Students and single parents often place wanted ads for computers.

on 9/22/2009 CompuCycle (www.compucycle.net) charges a fee for the recycling of electronics. Some components cannot be properly processed at no charge. (A CRT monitor, for example, contains 6-8 pounds of lead and must be sent to a glass processor.)
Watch the 60 minutes report, titled The Wasteland, to see where the free recyclers send your laptops.
