This is a fast, weak-side play designed to surprise the left end. Your running back must beat him to the outside.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Footballs
  1. Step 1

Set the offense in a split-back formation. Place seven players on the line. Position from the quarterback's left: split end, a space of 5 yards, tackle, guard, center, guard, tackle, tight end. Two running backs stand ready a yard behind the quarterback, one slightly to either side. Finally, a flanker is set 5 yards to the right of the tight end and 1 yard off the line of scrimmage.

  2. Step 2

Be sure the split end is further to the left and the flanker further to the right than normal. The two defensive corners will likely move to mirror these potential receivers.

  3. Step 3

Launch the play. The first five linemen should attempt to block one man over to the left.

  4. Step 4

Instruct the split end to block the left corner.

  5. Step 5

Have the left tackle block the end.

  6. Step 6

Have the left guard block the tackle.

  7. Step 7

Break the center past the nose guard to hook the left linebacker.

  8. Step 8

Send the right guard to block the nose guard.

  9. Step 9

Send the right tackle and tight end to block the tackle and end.

  10. Step 10

    Send the flanker straight out.

  11. Step 11

Instruct the right running back to break right, hoping to draw fire from the strong safety.

  12. Step 12

Open the quarterback to the right, then reverse pivot and pitch to the left running back.

  13. Step 13

Break the running back hard from the start, taking the pitch and attempting to outstretch the left end.

Tips & Warnings
  • Set a quick count on the hike, further surprising the defensive line.
  • Follow these steps assuming your line faces a basic 5-2 defense (five players on the line of scrimmage, two linebackers behind, a corner on either end, and two safeties in back). Adjust the blocking slightly to counter varying defenses.
  • The split end's block on the left corner is extremely important. Your running back can shoot like lightning to beat the end, but it does no good if the corner slips by to make the tackle.
  • Football is an inherently dangerous activity that can result in serious injury or death. We recommend that you seek proper training and equipment before attempting this activity.
