How to Teach Your Dog to Crawl

Teaching your dog to crawl is a fun trick for you and your dog to learn. Your dog should already know the command down and sit or this will be a very challenging trick to learn. If your dog knows the command down, then this trick will be super easy to learn. This trick will take a little time so be patient!

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• dog
• treats
• patience

1. Get your dogs favorite treats and your good attitude on!

2. 

   Tell your dog to lie down.

3. Now put your dogs favorite treat between his paws. Don't let go of the treat.

4. When the dog puts his nose next to the treat pull the treat slightly away from him/her while saying "crawl" in a commanding voice. Drag it on the ground or at least keep it close to the ground. The dog should follow the treat by crawling. If the dog does not then your treat is moving away too quickly. You are possibly going to confuse him if the treat moves too quickly.

   Getting a Treat!

   Make the dog reach for the treat and continue to move it away while saying crawl. Do not do this too long. At first if the dog takes 2-5 little crawl steps praise him and give him the treat.

6. Repeat Repeat Repeat.

7. 

   Praise Praise Praise! Do this in an excited tone! Let the dog know you are really happy he's doing the trick the right way.

Tips & Warnings

• Praise the dog!
• Don't do too much where the dog starts getting bored or distracted.
• Do not say no if the dog does the trick wrong. This may confuse him of whether or not you mean don't do the trick or that he's doing the wrong thing.
