Install a Bathroom Sink Drain

Installing a bathroom sink drain is not the most difficult thing to do. Anyone can do it with step-by-step directions and the right tools.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • pipe wrench or hand tightening if you are pretty strong
  • pvc drain pipe kit
  1. Step 1

Whether you are installing a whole new sink and drain pipes or replacing the existing pipes, the steps are the same.
You need to buy a drain pipe kit. This will have all the parts you will need for this project other than the pipe wrench. If you are replacing existing pipes, you need to measure the existing pipes and make sure the new ones are the same dimensions.

  2. Step 2

Insert the drain section into hole at the bottom of the bowl of the sink. It will screw on with the washer included in your kit. Connect the next part(it will be straight) with washer. Use your pipe wrench or your strength to do both of these jobs.
If you are replacing pipes, remove all plastic nuts and washers that connect the pipes and traps. Then do the above.

  3. Step 3

You are now ready for the "J" pipe. This is also called the "trap". Connect this to the pipe you installed in the last step. Again, use the washer provided and pipe wrench or hand.

  4. Step 4

The last piece to add is bent as well. Connect that to the "J" pipe and to the drain outlet in your wall.

  5. Step 5

Make sure all connections are tight, you don't want leaks! Fill a bowl, bucket, or glass with water and dump it down your drain. Check for any water drips. If you find some, make sure washers are put correctly in place and every piece is connected very tightly.
    You did it!
