How to Use the Print Screen Key on a Presario

There are times when it is useful to capture what is on your computer screen so that you can show it to someone else. The print screen makes it possible to do just that. After you capture the look of the screen you can then alter it using graphics software or email it to colleague. The only problem is that the print screen key can be a bit confusing on a Compaq Presario. Once you follow these steps though, you'll be able to easily use the print screen key from now on.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the "Function" key. The "Function" key is located on the bottom row of a Compaq Presario laptop. If you look on the left side of the keyboard, you'll see a key that says "Fn" and is surrounded by a square. This key makes it possible to use certain functions, such as the "Print Screen" function. If you look at the top row on a Compaq Presario laptop, you'll notice that there are functions listed that are surrounded by a square. To use these functions, you must use the "Function" key.

    • 2

Hold down the "Function" key along with the "Control" and "Insert/Print Screen" key. On other computers, you hold down "ALT + CTRL + Print Screen" key. On the Presario it is a bit different because you must use the function key to access the "Print Screen" function.

    • 3

Open graphics software, such as "Photoshop" or" Paint". Captured images can be viewed in graphics software. In fact, you'll need to open the graphics software so that you can view the image. You can then alter the image or save it for later use. You can also print the image or attach it to an email.

    • 4

Press "Control + V" to paste the image into the software. Pressing "CTRL + V" makes it easy to paste the image into software. With some programs, you won't be able to right click and then select paste to place the image in the software.

    • 5

Print out or email the results. Once you have finished working with the image, you can then print out or email the results. Make sure to also save the image so that you can access it again should the email fail.

Tips & Warnings

  • Paint allows you to make few alterations, but it comes free with Windows. Photoshop will allow you to fully alter images as needed. A series of captured images are great for presentations and computer tutorials.

  • Remember to hold all the keys at once or the image will not be captured.
