      -=Step One=-
During the winter there are times when the temperatures will go with below freezing. In the Phoenix area where I live this tends to happen every year. There are some simple things you can do to prevent frost damage. The first and most obvious thing you can do is to cover your tender plants with sheets. If the freeze will not be too hard then this should be enough. save your sheets and try to cover as much of the plant as possible. This will capture and hold in heat from the soil.

      -=Step Two=-
another way you can keep plants from freezing is to use lighting. Many of us have Christmas lights stored that can be used for protecting tender plants. There are mini bulbs and larger bulbs, but obviously the larger bulbs will provide more heat. I have also used larger 500 W halogen bulbs to protect frost damage. If the temperatures will not get too cold even the mini bulbs will help protect your plants.

      -=Step Three=-
A third option for protecting your tender plants from frost damage is to use portable heaters. There are two types of portable heaters: electric, and gas powered. Place the portable heaters near your tender plants. Be careful not to place portable heaters too close to your plants so as not to burn them. This can be especially effective to protect a larger area.

      -=Step Four=-
another option to protect your tender plants is to plant them in containers that can be moved indoors. When purchasing new plans consider how long they will last and purchase plastic or ceramic containers to plant them in. You can simply pick up the plants and bring them indoors.
