Pretty soaps shaped in baby soap molds make ideal favors for a baby shower. It's easy to make baby soap molds when you have the latest materials and the easy instructions below to make baby shower soap molds from silicone putty. These instructions will make a bar of soap with a sleeping baby curled up on top.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Knead-A-Mold 2-part silicone mold putty
  • Plastic soap box
  • Sleeping baby cake decoration
  • Quick-drying glue
  1. Step 1

Clean the soap box well with a degreasing cleaner. Glue the sleeping baby doll to the top of the soap box to create a model on which to build your mold.

  2. Step 2

Take equal parts of the two colors of Knead-A-Mold compound and knead them together until the colors are completely blended. You'll feel the silicone warming up as the chemicals react with each other. Be prepared to work quickly since the silicone has a short curing time.

  3. Step 3

Flatten the ball of putty and press it around the sides of the soap box mold form. Bring the putty up to overlap over the top edges and smooth the corners.

  4. Step 4

Take two more pieces of the Knead-A-Mold and knead them until the colors are completely blended. Flatten this ball into a thick rectangle and press it over the top of the soap mold form, covering the baby. Press the silicone firmly around the baby's form and around the edges. The two pieces of the silicone mold will stick together. Make the bottom as flat as possible so that the soap mold will stand on its own.

  5. Step 5

Allow the silicone mold to cure according to package directions on the soap mold form--usually about 6-8 minutes.

  6. Step 6

Remove the soap box mold form from your new silicone baby soap mold mold. That's all there is to it! It takes so little time that you can easily make another one--or three--so that you can make more than one baby soap at a time.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use a craft knife to remove any excess silicone.
  • The Knead-a-Mold silicone compound is FDA approved food safe, so you can use these molds as candy molds--but only if you make separate ones from the ones that you use for making baby soaps.

on 1/5/2009 That's a really cute idea! I'm guessing it wouldn't be that expensive overall either.
