Instructions

Repairing CPVC pipe isn't hard as long as you follow a few simple steps. The first is to determine the size of the pipe that needs repair and whether it is in a straight pipe or in a bend. The number of fittings you will need and the length of extra pipe you need to replace the damaged pipe.

    • 2
      tubing cutter

With a tubing cutter or hacksaw cut out the damaged pipe. The cuts don't have to be perfect but should be relatively straight. Remove any burrs inside and outside the cut. Keep outside of your pipe and inside the couplings clean and dry when cementing.

    • 3

Apply primer to one end of existing pipe and inside one coupling, then apply a thin coat of cement to each surface. Push coupling all the way onto pipe and give it a quarter turn to spread cement evenly inside joint. Repeat process for existing pipe on the other end of your repair..

    • 4

Once couplings are installed on each end of your repair, measure distance between center of couplings and cut new pipe to fit. You will need to do both ends of this pipe at once so the pipe can be turned in both couplings. Prime and cement both ends of pipe and both couplings, push ends of pipe into couplings and twist one quarter turn. The cement will bond quickly and you may not be able to turn the pipe, but as long as the entire surface inside the joint has cement it should give you a strong leak free bond.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wait at least one hour before pressure testing your joint, longer if in an unheated area.

  • Keep all surfaces clean and dry during cementing.

  • Ventilate work area to avoid breathing fumes from primer and cement.

  • Wear gloves to avoid skin contact with primer and cement
