You're in luck: Your state has many excellent resources, including organizations that can put you in touch with specific needs groups, allowing you to clean up while aiding a cause you believe in. If you need a pickup or are looking for something nearby, don't worry: There are groups all over the state, and many will come to your house to pick up donations.

If you're in or near New York City, consider donating though the Mayor's Volunteer Center. The MVC is a big-tent nonprofit center that works to match people who want to give with people in need. The MVC is connected to a number of donation centers. Check out their website (listed in Resources) and see what's on their list of collection centers. They have information for more than just furniture donation, so see what other items you might be able to pass on to someone in need.
