Step 1
When buying a carpet brush for a central vacuum system, the first thing to you need to know is what kind of brush do you need, electric of air driven. Air driven carpet brushes, also commonly called "turbo brushes" are used on low pile carpeting and area rugs only. Air driven carpet tools work off the suction power of your central vacuum and will not spin on thicker carpeting. Electric carpet brushes are ideal for medium to thick pile carpeting or households with pet hair.

Step 2
Once you have determined what kind of central vac carpet brush you need, you can start to look into the available features and benefits. The first feature I would look for is a "Geared" or "Serpentine" style belt. These belts do not stretch and rarely need to be changed.

Step 3
Other features you maybe interested in are L.E.D. performance lights, motor protection and carpet height adjustments. Almost any quality carpet nozzle will have a motor protecting auto shut-off feature to prevent the motor from burning up when something gets caught in the brush. If you have different carpet styles or heights you may want to look at a carpet brush that features a manual height adjustment. Another popular feature to look for are "L.E.D. Performance Lights". These are normally small red and green lights that light up when the brush is operating normally or not.

Step 4
The last thing to keep in mind is overall quality and performance. It is my experience that European made central vacuum carpet brushes, made in places such as Germany or Italy usualy are of great quality.
Hopefully these tips will point you in the right direction.
