Step 1
Connect the power supply into an outlet, and attach the other end into the power input on the printer. The end that connects to the printer should have three small connector pins that fit inside slots in the back of the printer.
-
Step 2
Attach the USB cable to your computer, and hook the other end into the output slot of the printer. The USB slot is a small rectangular hole in the side or back of your computer. The other end of the USB cord has an almost square shape to it, and this is the end that you should connect the the appropriate output slot on your printer.

Step 3
Boot your computer and insert the included CD. This will launch an installation menu. This menu will install the drivers required to run your printer, as well as the factory software that HP includes for photo editing and manipulation.

Step 4
Click on install, and then on recommended installation. This will launch the install wizard. A number of prompts will appear throughout this process. The first prompt that appears is the Terms and Conditions box.
-
Step 5
Agree to the Terms and Conditions dialogue and continue, clicking "Next" at each prompt. This will install everything in the default directories onto your computer's hard drive. When the last prompt box appears, it will have the word "Finish" instead of "Next."

Step 6
Click on "Finish" to complete installation. The installation wizard will then close and you will return to your desktop. At this point you will be presented with a message saying that your printer is ready to use after you reboot your computer.
-
Step 7
Click on "Yes" to reboot your computer. The next time you start your machine, your printer will be fully functional.
