Central Vacuum Hose

If you need to replace or simply purchase a new central vacuum hose, learn which one is best for your needs.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The first thing you will need to do is determine what kind of hose you need. Central vacuum hoses come in three different styles.. basic hoses, low voltage hoses and electric hoses. A "basic hose" is very common. This style hose activates the vacuum when you plug it into the wall. This hose does not have an on/off switch, so the vacuum will only stop once the hose is pulled out. A "low voltage hose" is a driect upgrade of the basic hose. The low voltage hose features an on/off switch so you can stop or start the suction as you please. Low voltage hoses also tend to be lighter and feature a swivel handle. An "electric hose" will have all the features of a low voltage hose but with the added benefit of 110V electricity. The electric is used to operate an electric carpet nozzle. In most cases an eletric central vacuum hose will have a 6 to 8 foot eletrical cord on the end of it.

Now that you have determinded what style central vacuum hose you will need, you should start looking into some other features. These features include the hose length, style of handle and weight. Hoses vary in size from 30 to 50 feet for basic and low voltage hoses and up to 36 feet for electric hoses. You should determine the length you need by where your central vacuum wall inlets are placed and what furniture you may need to go around.

  3. Step 3

Another feature to look for on a central vacuum hose is the handle style. My personal favorite is the "Comfort Grip" handle. That should be all you need to look for when shopping for a central vacuum hose.
