Step 1
Make a list of things to pack. Tape it to the front door so you can review it before you leave. Keep a highlighter and pencil nearby so you can mark what has been packed and add any notes.
-
Step 2
Bring the largest size carry on that you can. The more you can pack in a carry on, the less space your will need for checked bags. If possible, try to travel only with carry on luggage. The more you can keep with you, the better.
-
Step 3
Keep your medications, doctor and pharmacy information with you. Do not put them in bags you will be checking in. If you have a problem while you are traveling, having your medication and contact information readily available can be a lifesaver.
-
Step 4
Pack your favorite snacks in your checked luggage. As you consume them during your trip, you will make room for souvenirs that you want to take home. This is also a good idea if you are traveling with children who have a certain snack they like to eat, which may not be available where you are going.
-
Step 5
Most importantly, bring a copy of your flight itinerary and write down the phone numbers of the airlines reservations or customer service. You will be prepared if you miss your flight or connection, or if there is a cancellation or unusually long flight delay. Have the terms and conditions with you so you know your rights and what to expect. Calling from a cell phone may be faster and easier than standing in line.
