Scorpions are a scary looking Arachnida with a nasty sting. There are over 2,000 types of scorpions, with some being deadly and others being no more dangerous than a bee. Fortunately, the scorpions found in Arizona are typically not deadly. Very small children, elderly people or those who are allergic may have a serious reaction to a scorpion sting. But for the rest of us, here are a few tips on surviving the scorpion sting.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ice
  • Pain pills
  1. Step 1

Relax and take a deep breath. If you get excited and anxious, the poison will rush through your system and cause more pain.

  2. Step 2

Apply ice to the area and take a pain medication.

  3. Step 3

Do not take a hot bath. This is not the time to take a hot shower, sit in the hot tub, or do anything to get your blood circulating.

  4. Step 4

Wait it out. Some people feel paralyzed for about 24 hours after a sting.

  5. Step 5

See a doctor if you believe you are suffering an allergic or serious reaction.

Tips & Warnings
  • Scorpions are dormant in the winter, yet start coming back in the springtime in Arizona.
  • It is a sting, not a bite!
