Things You'll Need:
- A plan
- Strength
- Confidence
- To put all feelings aside for the other person
- To look for a different place to live
-
Step 1
You must make plans and have another place to live temporarily(or until you get on your feet.) You could stay with friends, family members or any battered women's shelter.
-
Step 2
Be sure not the let the abuser know of any of your plans and play it cool. Think of how your life will be after you leave him and get happy. Make their favorite meals and start doing extra things for them.(Start a hot bath for them or bake their favorite dessert.)
-
Step 3
Go down to your local courthouse and get paperwork to file for a Civil Protection Order. This order will keep this man away from your for five years and he can't come near you or else he will go to jail. When it expires, it can be renewed.
-
Step 4
If you have children, explain to them why you are moving but don't tell them all of the details. Let them know not to let anyone know where you will be residing. Don't change your mind because a child says they want to stay or something like that. You must do what is best for you and your children. An abusive relationship is not good for them.
-
Step 5
When it is time for you to move out, make sure to take everything with you that you want to take. Ask if a police officer can be present while your stuff is being moved out. It will make the move go more smoothly and you will feel more safe. Make sure that you take everything that you need so that you will not have to come back.
-
Step 6
Get in the car, drive off and don't look back at that loser. Move on with your life. You deserve better.
