Party platter!

Hosting a New Year’s Eve party? Don’t go buy any pre-made meat, veggie or fruit platters from the store, when you can throw one together in a matter of minutes that your friends will aw over. No last minute stressing, honest. In just a few easy steps your platters can look professional but without paying high prices for pre-made ones from the store.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Green Leaf lettuce.
  • Lunchmeat.
  • Cheese.
  • Green olives.
  1. Step 1

Decide on what type of platter you need for the party. There are 4 basic ones; sandwich, veggie, fruit and desert platters or you can always make one large platter with a little bit of everything. Make a list. Check for items that you may already have.

  2. Step 2

Hit the grocery store or farmer’s market the day before your party. Look for veggies and fruit with lots of color. You will also want to buy some fresh green leaf lettuce for your “background” color on any platter. Green leaf lettuce has ruffles that make for a beautiful display. When buying for sandwich platters you’ll want to buy a variety of lunch meat along with a variety of bread and condiments. Baby pickles, baby carrots, green olives, and Ramona tomatoes are great side items for sandwiches.

  3. Step 3

The key to an attractive platter is color and contrast. For your festive News Years Eve sandwich platter, start from the outer edge of the platter; layer the green leaf lettuce like slices of pizza until the platter is covered.

  4. Step 4

If you have more than one cheese alternate the cheeses such as American and Swiss, turn squares so that the corners point to the outer edge of the platter, make one row around platter on top of the lettuce.

  5. Step 5

Roll the lunchmeat one slice at a time and alternate the different types of meat placing them half way down on the row of cheeses.

  6. Step 6

For the center of your sandwich platter, drain off water from a jar of green olives and place in a heap right in the center. You may use tomatoes or baby carrots for the center instead.

Tips & Warnings
  • If making a fruit platter; alternate colors of fruit in a triangle display like a sliced pizza. This is very pretty and easy to do. Bananas can be used as lovely dividers of whole strawberries with a fruit dip, chocolate, or seedless grapes placed in the center. Kids will love eating the bananas.
  • If making a veggie platter; again alternate colors of veggies on top of green leaf lettuce in rows or like petals on a flower. Bell peppers/green peppers are tasty and can be bought in red, yellow, orange and green. Using two or three yellow peppers cut off the tops and hollow out the seeds. Fill with veggie dip or salad dressing and place in center of platter.
