Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Personal Employment Information
  • Separation Form (if available)
  • Proof of Identification
  • Telephone
  • Computer with internet access
  1. Step 1

Go to the nearest Georgia Department of Labor Career Center and file for unemployment insurance benefits. You will need your personal information including your salary history such as hourly, weekly or monthly rate. Wait to speak with a customer service representative and when instructed, complete the online application and follow all instructions given by the representative to help you file for unemployment.

  2. Step 2

Certify your unemployment eligibility. After completing your application, you will be instructed by the representative to certify your eligibility to receive unemployment checks. You can certify your eligibility on the internet using one of the computers in the Georgia Department of Labor website or by calling the OLIVOR system's toll free number.

  3. Step 3

Use the appeal process if your unemployment benefits are denied. Keep in mind that people make mistakes. You could have made an error when filing or the processor could have made an error during the review and approval process. Either way, it will be in your best interest to appeal the denial to ensure you have exhausted all of your options for unemployment benefits.

Tips & Warnings
  • You do not have to file at the Georgia Department of Labor Center in your County. Any Career Center in Georgia can take your application.
  • Various qualifiers exist. Apply, even if you think you are not eligible.
