Make Bath Salts

Bath salts are an easy, inexpensive, and fun jar gift to make! This is also an easy craft to do with kids. There are endless varieties of bath salts you could make. Get creative with the labeling and packaging, too! Everyone will love to receive these handmade, fragrant treats!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 part sea or kosher salt
  • 1/2 part Epson salt
  • Scented oil
  • 1/4 part baking soda
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Mason canning jars or other decorative glass jars with tight lids
  1. Step 1

Gather all ingredients. Estimate how much to buy based on how many jars you would like to fill. Get a big bowl and dump in 1 part sea or kosher salt, 1/2 part Epson salt, and 1/4 part baking soda. Mix thoroughly.

  2. Step 2

Add scented oil, using your own judgement. About 10 drops per cup of ingredients should do. Use food-grade scented oil, used for making soap or lip balm. Do not use scented oil used for candle-making. You could also use essential oil, such as lavender. Research the essential oil you would like to use to make sure it is safe for the skin.

  3. Step 3

Add food coloring if desired. If you wish to make layers of color in your jars, divide your mixture among a few bowls, and color each bowl separately.

  4. Step 4

Let your mixture set overnight to dry out. The next day, stir the mixture thoroughly to get rid of any lumps.

  5. Step 5

Pour or layer your mixture into jars.

  6. Step 6

Seal your jars. Make labels or stickers on your computer. Use ribbon, raffia, or and anything else you can think up to decorate.
