Things You'll Need:
- 1 part sea or kosher salt
- 1/2 part Epson salt
- Scented oil
- 1/4 part baking soda
- Food coloring (optional)
- Mason canning jars or other decorative glass jars with tight lids
-
Step 1
Gather all ingredients. Estimate how much to buy based on how many jars you would like to fill. Get a big bowl and dump in 1 part sea or kosher salt, 1/2 part Epson salt, and 1/4 part baking soda. Mix thoroughly.
-
Step 2
Add scented oil, using your own judgement. About 10 drops per cup of ingredients should do. Use food-grade scented oil, used for making soap or lip balm. Do not use scented oil used for candle-making. You could also use essential oil, such as lavender. Research the essential oil you would like to use to make sure it is safe for the skin.
-
Step 3
Add food coloring if desired. If you wish to make layers of color in your jars, divide your mixture among a few bowls, and color each bowl separately.
-
Step 4
Let your mixture set overnight to dry out. The next day, stir the mixture thoroughly to get rid of any lumps.
-
Step 5
Pour or layer your mixture into jars.
-
Step 6
Seal your jars. Make labels or stickers on your computer. Use ribbon, raffia, or and anything else you can think up to decorate.
