This article teaches the reader how to get a payday loan.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Job
  • Paycheck that is direct deposited into your checking account
  • Driver's license or state identification card
  • Personal checks
  • Bank statement
  • References
  • Two paycheck stubs
  • Utility bills
  • Telephone bill
  1. Step 1

Go to a local payday loan store. Take your driver's license or state identification card, bank statement, two most recent paycheck stubs, telephone bill, a utility bill and a couple of pieces of mail addressed to you when you go. Some payday loan companies don't request utility bills or pieces of mail, but it's better to take it with you rather than have to go back and get it.

  2. Step 2

Fill out the application. It's a good idea to take the names, addresses and phone numbersof a couple of references with you the first time you go. After that, your application will already be on file and will just require periodic updating.

  3. Step 3

The clerk will tell you how much of a loan you qualify for. Tell the clerk how much of that amount you actually would like to take out as a loan. Write your post-dated checks in the amounts specified. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask the clerk.

  4. Step 4

Thoroughly read the contract before signing and initialing it. Again, if you have questions, ask the clerk. Make sure you are clear on the repayment terms. Generally, either a payment or payment in full will be due on your next payday.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use payday loans only as a last resort to obtain cash for an urgent need, such as a mortgage payment, rent, car payment, to keep a utility from being shut off, to get your car back after having it towed, etc.
  • Only take out the amount you need
  • Avoid temptation to take out a payday loan for vacations, a night on the town or to purchase gifts
  • Only obtain a payday loan in a dire emergency when you have no other resources available
