How to Write Good Love Letters

How to Write Good Love Letters thumbnail
When it comes to writing a good love letter, you must be romantic, honest and sincere.

Falling in love can be a wonderful thing, but sometimes it's difficult to express that love verbally. And if you're someone who's writing a love letter to the object of your desire, the most important thing is to be utterly sincere in the letter, plus as romantic and flattering as possible. Even if you're not a particularly great writer, you can still possibly win the heart of another as long as you express yourself honestly.

Gather the tools you'll need to help make the letter as romantic as you can. You'll need stationery with soft colors like yellow, white or cream, as well as at least two pens. Use a dark ink like blue or black, because lighter colors like pink or green can sometimes fade into the background and become difficult to read. If you'll be writing indoors, set a romantic atmosphere by dimming the lights playing soft music in the background. Or, if you're writing outdoors, find a park or other pleasant spot from which to work.

Sit down and give some serious thought to want you want to say in your love letter. Think about all the reasons why you're in love with the person to whom you're writing. Organize your thoughts by writing an outline of all that you want to say on a piece of scrap paper, then prioritize each item. This will help you better articulate yourself during the actual letter writing, making the process go smoother and potentially preventing the need for having to rewrite the letter.

Write the letter. Look at your outline and use it as a guide, but also write from the heart and be sincere. Describe your hopes and dreams and your love and passion for the person you're writing to. If there are any poetic words written by others that describe your feelings, use them, but be sure to give the original author proper credit. Since this could be the most important letter of your life, write each word and sentence slowly and deliberately, making sure the meaning and emotion are precise and clear. Also, be sure to sign and date your love letter.

Proofread the love letter after you've finished writing it. Go over each line, making sure that the words flow well, that they properly properly convey your emotions and that everything is spelled correctly. If you need one, have a dictionary nearby to refer to. Re-read the love letter at least twice, and if you find any mistakes, don't cross anything out on the page; instead rewrite the full page or pages that the errors appear, so that each page looks perfect. Then put the letter aside and re-read it a few hours later, just to make sure it still sounds good in your head and looks good on paper.
