Increase Gas Mileage in your Car

How to increase gas mileage in your car. There are a few simple steps you can take to make sure that your car is giving you the best gas mileage possible.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First, you have to make sure that your tires are properly inflated at all times. Purchase a car tire gauge and keep it in your car. You should check your tire pressure at least twice a week.

  2. Step 2

The speed that your car travels is very important. The faster the speed, the higher the rpms. In most cases that means lower gas mileage.
If you travel by highway or interstate, saving gas is very easy. Reduce your cars speed by 5 mph. Most of us go a few miles per hour over the speed limit already.

  3. Step 3

Acceleration in your car plays another important role in gas mileage. In most cases, how fast your car makes it up to the desired speed is really not an issue. If you can adjust your driving habits to allow you to accelerate in an moderate and even pace until your desired speed is reached that will save you a few bucks a month alone.

  4. Step 4

People that travel on highways, interstate, or just simply roads with few large hills, can benefit from using cruise control. The cruise control systems on most of today's cars is designed for convenience. You can also use it as a gas saver. If your car operates at a constant speed instead of going up and down it will increase your mileage.

  5. Step 5

Last but not least. This is one that will apply to some more than others. It's a little comical also. The more stuff that you keep in your vehicle the more it weighs. The more your vehicle weighs the more strain that is put on the engine. That increase in strain decreases your gas mileage in your car. So simply put, clean your vehicle out, remove anything that is not necessary, and keep it that way.
