Mac and cheese ranks among the top comfort foods, especially when it's homemade by Mom! This time honored family recipe has been one of my children's favorites since they were quite young. Creamy, Cheesy, Warm, and absolutely delicious.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Large Block of Chedder Cheese
  • 3-4 tablespoons of Flour
  • 1/2 cup of butter
  • 3 cups of milk
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 1 large can of tomato sauce
  • medium can of diced tomates
  • elbow macaroni
  • bread crumbs
  1. Step 1

    Prepare cheese beforehand by grating it and putting it aside. Grease a Glass casserole or pan with butter or non-stick spray.

    In a large pot melt butter. After the butter has been melted, add 3-4 tablespoons of flour and begin to mix and make a roux sauce.

    To the rue, add 3 cups of milk, salt and pepper. Stir until mixture becomes thick.

    Add 1 can of the tomato sauce and continue to stir for about 3 minutes. After 3 minutes add in the diced tomatoes, cover and cook for about 45 minutes on simmer. Stir every once in a while. While this is simmering begin making your macaroni.

    After the tomato mixture has simmered for about 45 to an hour, take your grated cheese and add it to the mixture. Continue to stir until smooth. Remove from heat.

    Taking your macaroni, pour it into the cheese mixture and stir throughly making sure to coat the macaroni.

    In a greased glass or cassarole pan, pour the macaroni in and spread it evenly. Sprinkle a good portion of bread crumbs over the top. Place in the oven and bake until golden brown (about 25-30 minutes)

on 12/28/2008 I used to make a version of this but with out the tomato sauce and I added monterey jack cheese. I might try this one this week for my husband who doesn't like traditional mac n cheese but this will be different with the added sauce. Thank you for sharing.
