How to Repair a Running Toilet

repairing a toilet is easy. change the flapper.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • new guts from the hard ware store
  • one pipe wrench
  • pipe thread tape
  1. Step 1

    star by turning off the water to the toilet, there should be a shut off value under the tank.

  2. Step 2

    next unhook the water line, by using the pipe wrench. take your wrench and in the middle of your tank there should be a pipe coming up take that pipe loose and pull it out put the new one in the smame way you took that one out.

  3. Step 3

    next move to the flapper. unhook the flapper, take the new flapper and put the chain on it in the same place where the old chain was, and hook the flapper back on, take your pipe thread tape and wrap it counter clock wise on the threads where the water line hooks back on. then put your water line back on tightly, next turn your water back on, last but not least try to flush your toilet. if still runs adjust the chain.

Tips & Warnings
  • make sure to put pipe thread tape on threads or it will leak
  • remember to turn water off.
  • remember to turn water back on.
  • put the water line on straight.
