Save Money in the Laundry Room

Did you realize that each load of laundry could be costing you approximately $1.50 at home? Here are some energy saving tips to save money while doing your laundry.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Saving electricity is important, so when you wash your clothes with hot water then you are raising your electric bill. Heating up water accounts for almost 90% of the energy needed for each washing machine load. Therefore, using cold water while doing laundry could save you almost $200 in a year.

  2. Step 2

One way to avoid buying expensive chemical additives for your laundry is to add 1 cup of white vinegar to your washer's rinse cycle.

  3. Step 3

If you have several loads of laundry to do then try doing them one right after the other. It cuts down the drying time by 10 minutes or more. This is because your dryer is still warm from your previous load and it doesn't take as much energy to heat up for your next load of laundry.

  4. Step 4

Put a tennis ball in your dryer with your laundry. The extra tumble action gives your clothes that extra help to dry faster.

  5. Step 5

Don't use the time setting on your dryer. Set it to auto. Sensors in the machine detect moisture and automatically shut off when the laundry load is dry. Not over drying your laundry not only saves you money, but it saves your clothes also.
