If you're going to be ringing in the New Year outdoors or somewhere cold this January, that strapless dress with open-toe shoes might leave you wishing you had stayed at home in front of the fire. But with a little preparation and few clever tricks you can stay warm and still look smoking hot all night long.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Dress Slip
  • Long Johns
  • Hand and Feet Warmers
  • Stalkings
  • Socks
  • Ear Muffs
  • Formal Gloves
  • Hat
  • Long Coat
  1. Step 1
    Check weather.com for forecast

Choose the appropriate outfit - Check the weather forecast for New Year's Eve in your area. If there's a chance it will rain, you might want to work a hat into your ensemble or grab an umbrella that doesn't clash with your outfit. Maybe a closed toe stiletto or knee high boots for the ladies and a dress boot for the guys.

  2. Step 2

Layers - Layers are great because they can be inconspicuous while still keeping you warm and you can always peel them away if you get too warm.

  3. Step 3

Underneath - Guys, whether you're wearing a tux, a suit or just the usual jeans and a blazer, long johns and an extra pair of socks can keep you warm when your date says "I'm cold"... and you end up without a jacket.

Ladies - If you plan to get really dressed up for a New Year's Eve party, there is only so much you can conceal under a dress so opt for stalkings instead of bare legs and a slip under your dress for an added layer of warmth.

  4. Step 4
    Pinstripe Fedora Hat

Outerwear - A fedora is a great way to add some style and sophistication to any guy's New Year's Eve outfit. Throw on a pair of leather gloves and a scarf and you'll be feeling warm and looking great.

Ladies - A peacoat or trench that hits below the bum can really compliment your outfit and keep you warm from your thighs up. Pick gloves that suit your outfit and maybe a scarf or shawl to match. Consider earmuffs also, very cute and very cozy.

  5. Step 5

Extras - Sip on something warm before the midnight toast. Some hot chocolate, a coffee, or tea will keep the chill away.

If it's going to be really cold out you might want to pick up some reusable hand and foot warmers. Hothands and ToastieToes by HeatMax are really great. Just shake the little air activated packets and they stay heated for 5-10 hours! You can toss one in your handbag, in your jacket pockets or even directly into your shoes.

  6. Step 6
    Festive Disco Ball

Get Moving - Last but not least, keep moving! If you stand in one place for too long, your bound to start shivering (unless of course you're standing under the mistletoe), so dance, walk around and just have fun. After all it is the last night of the Year!
