Now that you have picked your babysitter and gotten to know them a bit better, let's talk about how much to pay them.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1
So their not babysitters, it's still cute!

So their not babysitters, it's still cute!

If you have followed along with my other articles, you now have a babysitter that you trust and like, and it's time to discuss what you are going to pay a baby sitter. A lot of parent's get caught up by thinking "how much is my babies safety worth", or "how much is this time I am getting from this babysitter worth". That is not the only things you need to think about.

  2. Step 2
    Babies anyone?

    Babies anyone?

Think about how far the babysitter has to travel to get to where they are watching your baby. Do they drive and use their own gas? Do they carpool with someone in the area? Do they take a bus and use their own bus pass?

  3. Step 3

When deciding how to pay your babysitter you need to find out if they have a bank account! If they don't, you will have to have cash on hand, but if they do, you need to ask them will payment in check form be alright.

  4. Step 4

Think about how much time they will be taking care of your child, and how much money they could make making minimum wage in the same amount of time. No doubt you don't want to pay that much, but too much lower and they will probably have to stop babysitting for you and get a higher paying job at some point in time.

  5. Step 5
    Babies, babies, everywhere!

    Babies, babies, everywhere!

Does you child have any special needs that the babysitter will have to take care of? Is the child delayed in some way? Or is the child brilliant and can get into just about everything in a split second? This is also something you need to think about when decided how to pay your babysitter. Is there more than one baby they will be caring for?

Tips & Warnings
  • These are just a few things to think, there are many, many more.

on 1/2/2009 Great food for thought when deciding on how much to pay a babysitter! I would also suggest calling some local day care centers and find out what they charge as a sort of 'area gauge'. 5 stars!!

on 12/28/2008 Great tips. Many factors determine what you will pay a babysitter - a flat rate will not work for all sitters and situations.
