Step 1
BULLY TARGET: Develop self confidence. Bullies are least likely to target a person with self confidence. Avoid bullies when possible, but if your paths cross: Hold yourself up, and stand tall. Act confident. Look people in the eye, but do not challenge with staring.
-
Step 2
1st IGNORE BULLY: If confronted by bully, try to stand tall and ignore the bully. Reactions are a reward to the bully. Enroll immediately in martial arts class to develop self confidence and the ability to defend yourself.
-
Step 3
ADULT INTERVENTION: Enroll in martial arts. Okay repeat of step one but it is important. If it happens again, talk to a parent or teacher. Parents or teacher and child should be talking to the school administration. Schools have changed since parents went to school and there are now laws that schools need to follow about handling these kinds of situations.
-
Step 4
POLICE INTERVENTION: If school is unable to help on alternative is to call the police, right there from the school. Parents will have to come to the school. Call each time and file a lawsuit if you have too. Enroll in that martial arts class.
-
Step 5
FIGHT: This may backfire, so make sure you talk it over with your counselor, parent or teacher. If the bully makes a very clear move to hit you - you do not have to take that first hit. No matter what you are already going to be suspended by the school if the kid hits you. It will be considered mutual fighting. So, make sure you get in the first punch, make it count and walk away.
Do not EVER provoke the bully on purpose or use this as excuse to fight. It is simply, totally, self defense. If you are in group of bullies this is not going to work at all. -
Step 6
MOVE: If you have to move to a new school that might be better than continuing on in a school that has no power to deal with it. Look for a school that is smaller and has less ratio of teacher to students. Look for a school that has good programs for the things you are interested in.

on 7/9/2009 I was bullied through school, quit, and home schooled myself. I loved it. Sometimes things happen for reasons.

on 2/4/2009 Bullying is one (of many) reason we are thankful to be home educators. Yes, they still have to deal with it in social situations, but it's not a daily thing. Good advice.

on 1/20/2009 I was bullied by a neighbor this past summer, because I am small in size compare to her 300 lbs. Not that I'm lack confident, this woman is just a whack who took advantage of my "alone" status!

on 1/20/2009 It's horrible when someone is bullied. Thanks for writing an article about this issue. If only we could all instill a sense of self-confidence in our children. 5*!
