How to Introduce Your Girlfriend to the Family during Christmas

Save

"Meet the Family"..those few dreadful words can make a girl's day. So what to do when that dreadful day is today, Christmas Day? Here are a few ways to make this transition the least painful (and possibly comfortable) for her.

Things You'll Need

  • Appropriate Attire
  • Intel
  • Gifts
  • Timeliness
  • TRY TO GET SOME GOOD INFO OUT BEFORE-HAND. Give your family verbal snippets of information way before. This is so that they don't ask too many nosy questions during dinner. They would also know at least the most important thing: HER FIRST NAME.

  • DRESS APPROPRIATELY. Dress as nicely without looking "business-like" as possible. Let her know that. After all first impressions are everything. So why not assume an interview-like mentality before heading into the dinner? You have absolutely nothing to lose by dressing nicely.

  • SHIELD HER FROM THE QUESTIONS. If you were to take on a personality, think celebrity bodyguard. This is how you should protect her from 3rd degree questions. The family is curious and sometimes they don't realize they're being so intrusive. Just let them know that "she" will answer those questions later. And pray they forget. A more direct approach would be that she isn't answering THOSE questions (those are emergency lifesavers).

  • GIFTS. Make sure to let her know to bring a gift(s). She should bring a decent gift to someone of importance to your life, such as your mom or your grandmother. It's rude to show up to Christmas Dinner empty-handed.

  • LEAVE EARLY. Leaving a little earlier is good. This allows for those "extra inning" type questions to be missed. Some of those questions will have to be saved for next time. This may only be a dilemma for you (the boyfriend) because when you do get back; most of those questions for her will be aimed at you. Good luck and A Merry Merry Christmas!

Tips & Warnings

  • Use those emergency lifesavers sparingly. They become less and less effective as you use it more often.
  • Give her some information on your family members beforehand too. Information goes both ways.
