In order to use Stock.Xchng, you will have to register and sign-up with the site for free. Search for photos using keywords that describe the stock photo you're seeking and Stock.Xchng will bring back a few pay-per-download results, called "Stock Xpert" photos, along with quite a few photos that are available for free download. Download free photos on Stock.Xchng, but be sure to note any restrictions concerning usage. Some Stock.Xchng photographers require credits for their photos, while others require advance notification when using their photographs for public work.
