Unique ornaments make for memories that are treasures. One way is to get creative with clay and rubber stamps.
Kids cand o this and nto get that messy. Adults can whip up a series of unique and thoughtful gifts that will keep giving every Christmas or Chanukah!

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Amaco brand Terracotta clay
  • Rubber stamps of choice
  • Standard 12 ounce drinking glass
  • Spool ¼ inch holiday ribbon of choice
  • Water based Glaze with frost (optional)
  • Water based Sealer( optional)
  • Plastic rolling pin
  • Drinking straw
  • Cornstarch
  • Amaco brand Terracotta Clay has best colorful results.
  1. Step 1

    Finds rubberstamps that don’t have words on them. Images are easier
    Wash stamps to remove ink if they have been used. And let them dry for a while. Chill and lightly dust with cornstarch

  2. Step 2

    Knead the clay so it’s workable but not overly warm. And
    roll your clay out to about 1/8 inch thick or the thickness of a cookie. Make it big enough to hold the design.

  3. Step 3

    Standing up press the rubber stamp straight down not the clay. Not all the way just enough to make an impression. Lift straight up.

  4. Step 4

    Take a straw and poke a hole at the top.
    Then using a skewer or something sharp write on the back. Mark the date, write soemthing special and personalize.

  5. Step 5

    Slide the clay onto a piece of board and pop into the oven on 200 degrees F. Remember to flip it over to dry or let dry for 1 week flipping it over mid week.

  6. Step 6

    You can then paint it to accent the design and seal with a glaze. Let dry between painting and glaze.
    Thread the ribbon through the hole and tie it into a bow.

Tips & Warnings
  • Amaco teracotta Clay works best
  • Sparkels, dust and Modge POdge work great for finishing
  • Glue ribon, rickrack,gold cord. even strips of faux metal for a special finish
  • Do not overbake in oven or bake on too high temperature.
