You've decided to go decadent and picked up a bottle of two buck chuck for your fancy black tie event but alas, you've got no corkscrew. Pop it open like MacGyver would. Find out how, here.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • a bottle of wine
  • a pen
  1. Step 1

Place the bottle, face up on a table. Keep it away from stainable surfaces such as carpet as it might splatter a bit when you finally pop it open. You may want to have some paper towels ready to clean up any spilled wine. Roll up your sleeves for effect.

  2. Step 2

With one hand firmly around the neck of the bottle, grasp the pen in your other hand. Place the butt of the pen such that it rests on the top of the cork.

  3. Step 3

Push firmly on the pen, driving the cork into the bottle. When pouring the wine, you may find the cork blocks the neck of the wine. Use the pen to push the cork back to allow the wine to flow. Wine is served!

Tips & Warnings
  • Obviously, rigid pens work best for this.
  • Since the cork falls into the bottle, faux cork tops affect the taste less than cork ones do.
