Step 1
First plan your background. You can use the plain white sheet that comes inside the plastic pages of most scrapbooks. Or, you can buy special scrapbook paper for it.
Other ideas, use large magazine pages for your background. Some of the advertisements in some magazines are so beautiful. Look for ones that you like and use one of those.
Simplicity is best to create something beautiful. If you are going to put lots of pictures and lots of action into a page, then use a solid background page and or a background of "small" prints, tiny rosebuds or really tiny decorations. These look best with lots of pictures.
Adding only one picture to a page, then you might be able to use the larger patterned background. Just see how it looks. -
Step 2
Cut quotes and sayings out of old books and magazines and use these as page decorations. Cut things in circles or cut them with the corner cutters that some scrapbook meetings have available.
Write your own quotes or decorations with your own fountain pens. Decorate with watercolors. You do not have to spend much money on this. You can use a child's watercolor set to add bits of color to any scrapbook page.
Add family photographs or historical photographs. -
Step 3
Handwrite journal titles or captions. Handwrite a story for each page. Type a story and add that.
Add little items like movie ticket stubs, train ticket stubs. Add the McDonald's fry container (the cardboard) from your last vacation and mark it with the destination.
Glue in a small sugar packet or salt packet. These odd things make your scrapbook look different.
Decorate pages with the quotes from your favorite poets.
