Things You'll Need:
- (For the Cake)
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup hot water
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- (For the Cake Frosting)
- 1/3 cup whole milk
- One (2lbs.) package of powdered sugar
- 1 cup softened butter or margarine
- Orange food coloring
- Yellow food coloring
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Step 1
Candy cornFirst, we make the frosting for the cake - - Beat the butter (or margarine) until fluffy using an electric mixer at medium speed. Add in powdered sugar slowly; gradually. Beat mixture until light and fluffy. Add the milk, again beating until uniformed in consistency. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Step 2
Make the food coloring when you finish making the frosting. Stir yellow and orange food coloring into 1 and 1/2 cups of frosting, each. Set aside.

Now, we make the cake - - Beat all-purpose flour, eggs, granulated sugar, vegetable oil, cocoa powder, salt using electric mixer at medium speed. After the mixture is well blended, stir in the buttermilk.

Stir well baking soda into 1 cup of hot water, then stir into butter mixture in Step 3. Add the vanilla. Pour the cake mixture on a greased large baking pan.

Place in the oven and bake at 350 degrees F for 35 - 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. When the baking is done, leave the pan on wire racks for 15 minutes. Take the cake out and cool in room temperature.

Photo credit: www.images.surlatable.comFreeze the cake for 20 minutes. With frosting pipe, using medium-size star tips, add the frosting colors into any shape or design you want, on top and the sides of the cake. Slice into serving wedges and serve. Yields approximately 16 slices.
