reset your ATT U-Verse DVR

AT&T's new U-verse system is a great concept. If this service is in your area, it can be great. If you would like to combine your Television, Internet, and phone system, this "bundling process" seems to be cheaper. This seems to be the new wave of technological things to come. As with all technology, we are only human, so even the best intentions can be faulty. But; there is a couple of things the consumer can do before calling one of those call centers, waiting, on hold, etc.

Instructions

    • 1
      Tight connections?

This first step can be used on both boxes you may have problems with. Both boxes meaning your dvr and the plain "Set Top Box" (STB) U-verse supplies. If your TV is freezing, pixelating, or just having poor quality issues in general, the first step to making changes, or resetting the receiver is to simply restart the receiver box.

To reset, or "Soft Reboot", is the term att uverse uses; in front of the receiver box, while unit is turned on, press, and hold down the Power button. Hold the power button down for a good 6 seconds. The box will reset, power button will flash until it loads information it needs.

      Residential Gateway

Assuming the main unit, called the "Residential Gateway", or RG is getting the signal it needs. This main RG is usually installed sometimes close to your PC, Uverse customer commonly call this box the router. When you look on the front of that box, it may be upright, or lying down, the lights should be green. Some should be flashing, and the power light is solid green.

      RG The main hub

After you reboot the receiver box, and it still has problems, the next thing is to power cycle that box. This just means to unplug the power cord from the receiver box. Unplug, and once you find the power cord, keep in unplugged for about 12 seconds. Plug it back in. This again can take a couple of minutes to restore the settings. When the blue Att U-Verse screen appears, the TV is ready to watch again.

This should clear up everything, but if it doesn't, you can still do more trouble shooting before calling Technical support. Next would be Power cycling the RGF, I will have more articles on this subject, so please check back when possible.

Tips & Warnings

  • After resetting the receivers, make sure your input channel is on the right source. Input refers to how the TV is connected to Att U-verses receivers.

  • Make sure all of your connections are in good and tight, this can be another reason your picture quality is poor.

  • Anytime with electric, be careful.

  • Also when using surge strips, make sure they are on, when power is disrupted, they usually cut off.
