Off-Road Tire Fitment Guide

Choosing the right off-road tires for your vehicle requires only a few steps. Here is the information you need to make the right choice based on your vehicle manufacturer's size requirements, bias or radial, and the type of tire needed based on the overall use of your vehicle.

1. Choose the size of tire recommended by the manufacturer of your vehicle. If you choose a larger tire size, suspension changes will need to be make to allow for the larger tire size.

2. Decide on bias or radial tires. Bias tires are well suited to off-road conditions. With bias tires, the tread and sidewalls are made with one casing. While this is a disadvantage for normal road conditions, the increased friction is a good thing for off-road use such as moving over rocks and really rough terrain. Radial tires have a flat crown and a larger footprint, excellent for on-road and sandy or muddy off-road conditions with fewer rocks.

3. Choose the right tire type for all conditions that will be encountered by your vehicle. All-season tires aren't made for off-road conditions, but there are a few that are made to give your vehicle a more rugged look. This choice would be best for someone who is looking for a more aggressive look. All-terrain tires are excellent for both light off-road and regular street conditions. Extreme tires are made for off-road conditions, such as rocks, snow and mud, with minimal street use.

4. Get prices from at least five tire stores in your area. There is a wide variety in prices based on specials, promotions and the ability of different tire stores to buy in bulk or purchase close-out tires from their manufacturers.
