Did You Get Candle Wax on Your Clothing, Tablecloth or Fabric? Find Out How to Remove Wax From Fabric or Clothing!

Candles make great decorations and they add wonderful ambiance. But candle wax can really ruin a great tablecloth, clothing and other fabrics. Fortunately, there's a very easy trick to remove wax from tablecloths, clothes and other fabric items. Read on to learn how to remove wax from clothing and fabrics!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A Paper Bag
  • An Iron
  • Clothing, a Tablecloth or Other Fabric With Wax on it!
  1. Step 1

WAIT FOR THE WAX TO COOL COMPLETELY: If you try to remove wax when it's still warm and mushy, it will only spread to surrounding fabric, making the wax stain even worse!

  2. Step 2

REMOVE AS MUCH WAX AS POSSIBLE: Using your fingernail or the flat edge of a butter knife, gently scrape away as much wax as possible from the fabric. Scrape the wax toward the center of the wax stain to avoid worsening the situation.

  3. Step 3

PLUG IN THE IRON AND LET IT HEAT UP: Do not use a setting with steam! Use a medium heat setting.

  4. Step 4

GET A FEW PAPER LUNCH BAGS: Retrieve a few paper bags, like those used for a bagged lunch. These work the best by far. Avoid wax-coated paper bags!

  5. Step 5

REMOVE THE WAX: Place the wax-covered clothing item, tablecloth or other fabric item on an ironing board or atop a towel. Locate the wax stain and place one paper bag on top of the stain and place one paper bag beneath the fabric, underneath the wax stain. Place the iron on top of the paper bag for a few seconds. The heat will transfer the wax onto the paper bags. Repeat several times using different spots of the paper bags to remove the stain entirely.

Tips & Warnings
  • As you move the bags during Step 5, be sure that you don't allow the iron to come in contact with the wax spots on the bag that's absorbed the wax from the fabric. This will result in the transfer of the wax from the bag onto a clean spot of the fabric!
  • If you're ironing a delicate fabric with a wax stain, you may need to use a lower temperature setting on the iron.
  • Don't let the hot iron sit on the paper bags - you can burn the bags and even start a fire! Keep the iron moving!
  • Never leave an iron unattended!
  • Put the iron in a safe place while its cooling, away from pets, children and flammable objects!
  • Unplug the iron as soon as you're done!
