The first thing you need is a genuine XP installation CD. If you don't have one then you can use the start from scratch feature that comes with an XP recovery disk. Before you start make sure you have several gigs of free space on your existing hard drive. In addition make sure you back up your data.

Start by inserting you're Windows XP CD and then booting up the pc. Make sure that you're pc is booting up via the CD ROM. If you can't, you will have to go into your pc's boot menu and change that option. If you can't get it to boot from CD in the boot menu, then you can go to support. Microsoft.com and search for Q310994 which is a free setup boot disk.
