How to make your own Butter with out fancy machinery.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Our Ancestors probably made their own Butter at one time or another, actually it is very easy to made home aide Butter. Most people probably take advantage of purchasing their Butter from their local grocery store. This is understandable, due to the fact that most families today, have very little time to spend making things at home, but once in a while it can be a great deal of fun. Home aide butter tastes fresh and delicious. You don't even need a Butter Churn to make butter, I made my own by using simple things that I already had around the home.

  2. Step 2

First you will need, about a quart of "Heavy Whipping Cream", a clean Mayonnaise or Peanut Butter Jar with a lid. First pour as much of the contents of the Cream in to the jar, leave about 1-2 inches of space at the top of the jar (don't fill up to the very top). Tighten Lid, begin to shake vigorously back in forth, side to side until it looks like the cream is thickening. As cream thickens it will begin to collect in the middle of the jar and form crystals, continue shaking, until you have a smooth looking mass in the center of jar.

  3. Step 3

Next, remove lid, place contents in a strainer and rinse with cool water, pat down lightly with paper towel, place mixture in a small tin, spread out and you can even form Butter in to different shapes. I used Christmas Tree tins for the Holidays. Add a touch of salt and a dash of sugar, refrigerate for about 1-2 hours, you will have some tasty creamy butter to spread on your biscuits. In addition, you can make flavored butter also. My favorite is Brandy Butter, you follow the same steps as above however, before you refrigerate add 1 tablespoon of VSOP Brandy, or you can also use Sherry, even Vanilla. Most people don't realize how creative that they can be when making plain butter. It is a fun family activity also, the kids love to shake the jar containing the cream. Make sure you use Butter with in about 1 week, it doesn't keep that long, due to the fact that no preservatives are used. Enjoy!!

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you rinse any remaining liquid off of butter when placing it in strainer. Any remaining liquid can cause Butter to have a sour taste. Remember, cream turns to Buttermilk first, then to Butter.
