Find a large hill.
Find a large hill.

The snow is falling and the kids have energy to spare. The time to wear off some of that extra energy is now. The following article discusses methods to enjoy winter with a toddler.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Grab a sled. No hills around. Not a problem. Put your wee one on the sled and pull them around the yard or driveway. They will enjoy riding through the snow while you get some extra exercise. For more fun make it a game of which way to go. Let your child show you when to turn or to change your speed. The giggles alone will warm your heart.

  2. Step 2

Have a snow fluff fight. Toddlers have difficulty in forming snow balls. Have fun picking up snow in your hands and throw it up over your head. Non-packed snow is soft and is easily brushed off. Your child will delight in sprinkling you with their equivalent of white gold.

  3. Step 3

Little ones love to help. As much as you dislike shoveling, your children will love it. Invest in a child sized shovel and allow your little one to join you in the task. Position yourself between your child and any road access. Your child will love to contribute to the family by helping remove the snow.

  4. Step 4

Start a tradition of enjoying hot chocolate to warm up when you come in. Warm up fast by drinking hot chocolate with marshmallows. For an extra treat make some Santa's Delight Soup. While you sip the cocoa discuss your plans for your next venture in the Winter Wonderland. Snow angels anyone?

Tips & Warnings
  • Have fun and enjoy these times.
  • Don't forget to take pictures.
  • Be wary allowing your child to eat snow.
  • Icicles are potential accidents waiting to happen. Knock off of buildings and remove from play area.

on 12/28/2008 Beautiful! I can imagine my daughter doing all these things. I lived in the snow when I was young and loved it. Now we live on the West coast, and it doesn't snow. My daughter has been begging to live somewhere where it snows, and you are tempting me to give in:)
