Painting a wall can be a fun job or a tedious ordeal. It helps to be prepared, have the right tools and know the best techniques. This eHow will give you quick pointers on doing a great home paint job.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • PAINT
  • BRUSH
  • ROLLERS
  • ROLLER TRAY
  • TARP
  • LADDER
  • PAINT TAPE
  • RAGS
  1. Step 1

    Prepare the room. Remove all or most of the furniture. Tape edges, trim, ceilings, electric sockets and any places that you do not want to get paint on. Then lay plastic or a drop cloth on the floor.

  2. Step 2

    Mix the paint with a stick or a home supply store will do it for free on a mixing machine.

  3. Step 3

    Start with a brush on the edges First, dip brush in about halfway and remove excess. use smooth even strokes.

  4. Step 4

    After finishing the edges then use a roller for the large areas. Put ample paint in the tray and roll off the excess in the top of the tray. First roll in all directions like X's. The come back an go vertically to smooth the paint.

  5. Step 5

    Let dry and check, if needed then redo some spots for even coverage.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use paint tape not masking tape which may bleed
  • All tape will bleed on textured surfaces
  • Use a quality paint for good coverage
  • Prime coat if making major color difference changes
  • If using older paint take it to a home supply store to machine mix.
  • Be sure and ventilate
