Audacity is quickly becoming a poor man's version of Pro Tools. Due to a powerful yet simple interface and no cost, many hobbyists are jumping on this little piece of Internet shareware. With a little practice you, too, can be making quality recordings in no time at all.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Open Audacity.

  2. Step 2

Click on "File -> New Project." A new window will pop up.

  3. Step 3

Set the parameters for your audio track. This includes bit rate, file name and mono or stereo playback. All the changes you make in this window will affect how your recording sounds when all is said and done.

  4. Step 4

Click on the red circular button at the top. This is the record button. Once clicked, it will begin recording. When finished with what you wanted to lay down, either click the button once more or simply hit the space bar. Your recorded audio data will now pop up into the track window.

  5. Step 5

Save the file to ensure that you have a backup. That's it!
