How to Treat Chin Acne

Acne is caused by the clogging of hair follicles. Whether it's hormone fluctuations, touching your chin too often or using your chin to balance your cell phone without ever cleaning the phone, there are many causes of chin acne.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash the area daily with an antibacterial face wash. Make sure it is oil free.

    • 2

Apply a spot treatment acne medication. You can find those containing benzoyl peroxide in drugstores.

    • 3

For more serious cases, consider going to a dermatologist and asking for a treatment containing Tretinoin or a vitamin A derivative, both of which have been proven effective in treating acne. Accutane is also an option, though it can have strong side effects.

    • 4

Once or twice a week, exfoliate the area with a facial scrub. Rub gently, as the skin on your face is thinner than that of the rest of your body.

    • 5

Keep your hands off your face, don't rest your chin on your hands, and make sure everything that touches your face--such as cellphones--are regularly cleaned and disinfected.

    • 6

Use oil-free foundation and powder if you wear makeup. Try a concealer that also contains salicylic acid for keeping bacteria at bay.

Tips & Warnings

  • For cystic acne, it is best to see a dermatologist. Resist the urge to squeeze acne. Scarring can result, especially with cystic acne.
