There are many ways to spend time with your puppy. One way is by teaching it a new trick. An impressive and simple trick that your puppy can learn is to roll over. A puppy who can roll over will be able to impress your friends and show them how smart it can be. With the right information and practice, a puppy will easily learn how to roll over.

Instructions

    • 1

Get your puppy comfortable. A puppy that is uncomfortable will not be receptive to your orders. This can be done by playing with your puppy or giving it space before you begin the training.

    • 2

Have your puppy in a sitting position, and from there place a small treat just below its mouth area. It will most likely follow this treat with its snout.

    • 3

Give a command by saying the word "Down." The command is used to anchor the word to your puppy's actions, so it can more easily be reminded of the trick.

    • 4

Lower the treat from below its mouth, to just right above the floor. As your puppy follows the treat with its mouth, gently push down on its back until it is in a laying position.

    • 5

Lay your puppy to its right or left side as you command the words "Roll over," and then lay it on its back. Give it a belly rub as treatment of good behavior. As you continue to do this, your puppy will expect a belly rub. You will eventually need to leave out belly rubs once your puppy has gotten used to the commands. Finally let it have the small treat as a reward.

    • 6

Continue to train your puppy until you are able to to command it without any physical movements on your side. Always finish the training with a treat or a warm petting gesture to congratulate it.
