If you want to critique a book, you will need to know how to write a book review. This can range anywhere from a book report to a blurb about the book and can be done on any type of literary book. The following article will detail the points for how to write a book review.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Establish credibility. The reader needs to know in short why you opinion of this literary book matters. This should just be a quick blurb that relates you to your experiences and makes your opinion worth reading.

  2. Step 2

Put a short summary. This should not reveal anything critical about the book rather it should establish the overall theme. It is important to include this so that readers who have not read the book will be able to determine if they are even interested in the topic.

  3. Step 3

Include what you liked and disliked about the literary book. If you know how to write a book review then you know that opinion should always be a part of the process. The reader wants to know if they are going to like the reading, so you have to include your personal thoughts.

  4. Step 4

Consistency is critical. Was the literary book consistent in theme? Did the plot get repeatedly off course, making it difficult to follow? You could also reveal if there were any flaws in the logic used by the author or holes which were left in the story.

  5. Step 5

Ease of reading is important to add when you write a book review. A literary book can be difficult to read, but it should always flow and maintain interest. If it becomes dry, then this is a negative part of the reading which you should include in the review.

  6. Step 6

Additional depth can be added. This can be any moments of spectacular imagery. It can also be allegorical connections or anything that adds an overtone which will peak the interest of the reader.
